Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago, officially ratified the state's 2024 budget of N613.2 billion on Wednesday. The swift approval by the state assembly, just hours before the governor's endorsement, marked a historic moment in governance.

Governor Bago, in a stern warning, cautioned government officials against mishandling state revenue, emphasizing consequences for those who fail to adhere to financial protocols.

Expressing gratitude for the speedy legislative process, Bago lauded the efforts of the state assembly members, deeming their efficiency as unprecedented. The governor reiterated his administration's commitment to a robust collaboration with the legislative arm, aiming to complete legislative quarters within three months.

In a bid to ensure accountability, Bago asserted that the oversight function of the Legislature would remain unwavering. He declared that heads of government agencies refusing scrutiny would face termination, emphasizing the need to protect the sanctity of the Legislature.

Speaker Abdulmalik Sarkin-Daji, shedding light on the budget adjustments, explained the additional N720 million aimed at addressing critical areas in line with the "New Niger" agenda. The speaker credited the swift passage to the collaborative efforts with the Planning Commission.

The 10th Assembly, as pledged by Sarkin-Daji, affirmed its steadfast support for the governor's vision, vowing to stop at nothing to realize the goals outlined in the 2024 budget.

Governor Bago had presented the "Budget of the Future" on December 19, 2023, with the Speaker promising a timely passage. True to their commitment, the state assembly ensured the budget's approval on or before December 27, 2023.

This budget signing marks a significant step towards the realization of development goals in Niger State, setting the stage for the implementation of key projects outlined in the financial plan for the year 2024.
