The late Governor of Ondo State, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, who passed away on December 27, 2023, has returned to Nigeria from Germany, where he succumbed to a protracted illness. The somber homecoming took place nine days after his demise, with his body arriving on January 5, 2024.
A Facebook post by the former Chief Press Secretary to the late governor, Mr Richard Olatunde, captured the moment. The arrival was marked by emotional scenes as Akeredolu's wife, Chief Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, his children, siblings, and dignitaries, including Lagos State Governor Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, gathered at the airport.
Olatunde shared:
"Family members, followers, friends, and associates could not control their emotions as the body of the late Governor was being lowered from the plane."
The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State, Ade Adetimehin, and other political figures, along with members of the Ondo State Executive Council, were present to receive the former governor's remains.
The body has been deposited at the morgue, and details of the burial arrangements are anticipated to be announced by the family at a later date.
