Nigerian Art Student Shatters Record with 100-Hour Painting Marathon

Chancellor Ahaghotu, a sophomore at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta, surpasses the previous record for the longest painting marathon set a decade ago.

Chancellor Ahaghotu, a Nigerian art student studying at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, has made history by completing a 100-hour painting marathon, breaking the decade-old record for the longest continuous painting session. This achievement far exceeds the previous record of 60 hours set by Roland Palmaerts (Belgium/Canada) in 2013.

Diverse Creations Reflecting Various Subjects

Over the course of four days, Chancellor passionately created a total of 106 pieces, showcasing a wide array of subjects including celebrities, food items, plants, animals, and more. Each painting was a representation of his different moods and emotions throughout the marathon.

Chancellor shared his motivation for attempting this remarkable feat:

“I came to the United States to pursue my dreams and build up my career as a recognized artist. Breaking the record will boost my recognition as an artist both in my school and the world at large.”

During the marathon, Chancellor battled fatigue around the 88-hour mark but remained committed to achieving his 100-hour goal. The paintings not only demonstrated his artistic prowess but also served as an expression of his emotions and experiences during the challenging endeavor.

Chancellor expressed his feelings upon completing the 100 hours:

“There was joy and celebration when I completed the 100 hours. It was a new experience for me, and I’m so glad I completed the 100 hours. This [record] helps me feel a very high level of personal achievement, build up my career as a reputable artist, and pay a service to my school and country.”

Note: As with all 'longest marathon' records, Chancellor was permitted five-minute rest breaks for every continuous hour of activity, allowing him to attend to necessities such as bathroom breaks, eating, and short periods of sleep.
