U.S. Boosts Nigeria’s Security: Donates Advanced Unmanned Vessels

 

In a significant move to support Nigeria's fight against insecurity, the United States has generously donated two cutting-edge unmanned vessels, S2 and S3 Swift Sea Stalkers, equipped with advanced technology, to enhance the nation's efforts in combating security challenges.

"The donation of the equipment was part of the gains of his recent working visit to the United States," conveyed Henshaw Ogubike, the Director of Press and Public Relations in the Ministry of Defence.

The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, presented these state-of-the-art vessels to President Bola Tinubu during a ceremony at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. These hi-tech ships, gifted by the Swift Ship Company in the U.S., are intended to bolster Nigeria's capabilities in addressing contemporary security challenges, particularly in regions like the Niger Delta, Lake Chad, and various maritime areas.

"The Minister informed President Tinubu that the tour was aimed at promoting innovative technologies that would enhance the Nigerian military’s efficiency," stated the press release. "The idea was to encourage partnership with U.S. companies in the production of Military hardware locally in Nigeria."

Matawalle highlighted that this newfound partnership aims to strengthen Nigeria's military hardware production, aligning with President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s agenda to bring peace and security to the nation. The Minister, during his working visit to the U.S., inspected various facilities, including rapid deployment mobile RADAR systems, unmanned water vehicles, drone ground control stations, and compact biometric search-scan systems.

"The advanced military and intelligence hardware capabilities presented would significantly contribute to the ongoing efforts in the fight against insecurity in Nigeria," reassured the Minister to President Tinubu.

This collaboration not only involves receiving technological support but also explores opportunities for local production in collaboration with the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON). The aim is to leverage U.S. expertise to enhance Nigeria's military capabilities and contribute to lasting peace and security.
