N395.257 Billion Budget Passes After Assembly's Deliberations
On Friday, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State officially signed the 2024 appropriation bill into law. The Ondo State House of Assembly had previously passed the budget, with notable adjustments to the initial amount presented by Governor Aiyedatiwa.
Initially, the acting governor presented a sum of N384.5 billion to the Assembly, but the House approved a revised sum of N395.257 billion. This indicated an addition of over N10 billion to the original proposal.
The budget, labeled as the 'Budget of Economic Resilience,' allocates N222,259,827,500.00 for capital expenditure, constituting 56.23% of the total, while recurrent expenditure is set at N172,997,172,500.00, representing 43.77%.
Governor Aiyedatiwa confirmed that the House meticulously examined the budget before passing it. In his statement, he expressed appreciation for the detailed work done by the speaker and members of the State House of Assembly, as well as their prompt passage of the appropriation bill.
He stated, "I must put on record that generally, this administration has enjoyed a very cordial relationship with the legislature, and this has enabled us to deliver considerably on our promises to our people. This is a good legacy of our dear Arakunrin (Akeredolu) which must be sustained."
