Opposition Party Calls for Immediate Action and Accountability in Wake of Tragic Incident
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a call for President Bola Tinubu to personally visit the sites of the Christmas Eve killings in Bokkos and Barkin Ladi communities of Plateau State. The PDP's request comes in the aftermath of the brutal attacks by gunmen, resulting in the tragic loss of over 150 lives, as reported by the Chairman of Community Peace Observers in Bokkos Local Government Area, Kefas Mallai.
President Tinubu, who had earlier condemned the attacks and ordered a manhunt for the perpetrators, faced criticism from the PDP regarding the handling of the situation. The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, expressed concerns about the failure of intelligence before and during the coordinated killings, raising questions about the possibility of complicity by government officials.
In a statement released on Friday, the PDP urged President Tinubu to address these concerns by personally visiting the affected communities and providing reassurance to the victims' families. The party criticized what it described as the President's "grave insensitivity and dereliction of duty" for not immediately visiting the troubled areas to demonstrate leadership, empathy, and connection with the citizens.
The statement emphasized the need for concrete steps to track down the perpetrators and their sponsors. The PDP questioned why President Tinubu did not play his expected role as the "Consoler-in-Chief" and called for tangible actions to address the security challenges in Plateau State.
The PDP's call underscores the broader conversation around leadership accountability and responsiveness in the face of security crises, as citizens demand swift and decisive actions to bring perpetrators to justice and prevent further loss of lives.
