The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has invited the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, to its headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, over an alleged N585 million scandal. This invitation follows President Bola Tinubu's announcement of Edu's suspension and a directive for a thorough investigation into financial transactions related to the ministry.
An EFCC source disclosed that the commission's Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, recommended Edu's suspension to the President, leading to the swift action for a comprehensive inquiry. The focus is on the alleged payment of N585.189 million intended for vulnerable groups in Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Ogun, and Lagos states, deposited into a private account. Edu is expected to cooperate with the investigating authorities during the inquiry.
