FG Allocates N100 Billion for School Feeding in 2024 Budget

President Bola Tinubu revealed on Monday that the 2024 budget includes a substantial allocation of N100 billion for school feeding programs. The announcement was made during the signing of the 2024 appropriation bill into law at the State House in Abuja.

Tinubu emphasized that this provision is intended to act as a catalyst, promoting school attendance and addressing the issue of out-of-school children. The President expressed confidence that the allocation would encourage school enrollment and contribute to combating malnutrition among school children.

"One of the priority areas of the bill we just passed is the N100 billion provision for the feeding of school children. I believe that is a stimulant that will encourage school enrollment and also address malnutrition among school children. I will be meeting with local government at sub-national levels so that we can collaborate and jointly implement an all-inclusive program," stated President Tinubu.

He further affirmed that the budget, dubbed "Renewed Hope," focuses on reducing recurrent expenditure while increasing capital expenditure. In December, President Tinubu directed the reinstatement of the school feeding program, transferring its oversight from the Humanitarian Ministry to the Education Ministry.

The revitalized program, previously paused under former President Muhammadu Buhari, now falls under the Education Ministry's purview. Its objective extends beyond providing nutritious meals to pupils, aiming to foster attendance and enhance the overall learning experience.
