President Bola Tinubu’s 2024 New Year Address to Nigerians: A Commitment to National Development

 

President Bola Tinubu delivered his inaugural New Year speech to Nigerians, expressing gratitude to Almighty God for the grace and benevolence bestowed upon the country in the past year. In his address, President Tinubu acknowledged the challenges faced in 2023 and outlined his administration's commitment to addressing crucial issues affecting the nation.

The President reflected on the peaceful transfer of power, marking a significant milestone in Nigeria's unbroken democracy of 24 years. He thanked the citizens for entrusting him with a mandate to improve the country's economic landscape, enhance security, revitalize industries, boost agricultural production, and set Nigeria on a path toward enduring greatness.

President Tinubu acknowledged the hardships faced by Nigerians, including the removal of fuel subsidy and adjustments to the foreign exchange system. He emphasized the government's focus on making tough decisions in the best interest of the country's fiscal stability. While recognizing the rising cost of living, high inflation, and underemployment, the President urged citizens to remain resilient, emphasizing that tough times are temporary.

Addressing security concerns, President Tinubu highlighted ongoing efforts to ensure peace of mind for citizens. Economic recovery plans laid the groundwork for revitalizing various sectors, with a specific focus on power projects. The President mentioned agreements made during COP28 in Dubai, emphasizing commitments to the Siemens Energy power project to provide reliable electricity.

To ensure food security, President Tinubu outlined plans to cultivate vast farmlands for staple crops across the country. He also pledged to simplify fiscal and tax policies to create a conducive business environment, inviting local and foreign investments. The President reaffirmed his commitment to removing obstacles hindering business competitiveness in Nigeria.

President Tinubu concluded his address by reiterating his administration's eight priority areas, including defense and security, job creation, macro-economic stability, investment environment optimization, human capital development, poverty reduction, and social security. He announced the implementation of a new national living wage for workers in the new year.
