Rampant Insecurity Grips Nigeria: Kidnappings, Abductions, and Attacks Across Multiple States


A wave of insecurity has swept across Nigeria in the last 48 hours, with terrorists, bandits, and criminals unleashing deadly operations in six states and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja. The attacks spanned five of the six geo-political zones, leaving a trail of death, kidnappings, and stolen property in their wake. The affected regions include Abuja, Enugu, Katsina, Ekiti, Zamfara, and Kebbi.

Abuja: Kidnappers Kill 3, Raise Ransom to N700m

In the nation's capital, Abuja, kidnappers abducted 10 individuals from Sagwari Layout, Dutse, on January 7. Disturbingly, reports now confirm that the kidnappers have killed three of their victims, including a 13-year-old high school student named Folorunsho Ariyo. The ransom demand has surged from N60 million per person to an exorbitant N100 million, totaling N700 million. Residents of Sagwari Layout are planning a protest against perceived government inaction.

Bandits Abduct 36 Women, Kill 3 in Magizawa Community

Bandits raided Magizawa community in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State, abducting 36 women and killing three individuals, including a vigilante leader. The overwhelmed local vigilantes and security personnel struggled to counter the bandits' invasion. The Police are yet to provide detailed information on the attack.

Katsina: Bandits Raid Military Camp, Unleash Mayhem on Nahuta Community

Armed bandits targeted a joint military camp in Nahuta village, Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina State, setting ablaze vehicles and looting goods. The bandits then extended their rampage to Nahuta town, looting properties and traumatizing residents. Soldiers managed to repel the assault, but there were reports of considerable damage.

Kaduna: Mother and Son Abducted in Zaria

In Kaduna State, Halimatu Sa’adiya Bello and her 17-year-old son, Yusuf Bello, were abducted in Dogarawa area, Sabon Gari LGA. The armed bandits, numbering 15, stormed the area, killing three individuals and injuring another. The victims were forcibly taken into the bush, while those left behind were tied and locked in their rooms.

Kebbi: University Lecturer Kidnapped

Gunmen kidnapped Dr. Musa Sale Argungu, a deputy dean and lecturer in the Faculty of Physical Sciences at Kebbi State University of Science and Technology Aliero. The lecturer was abducted at gunpoint, with his whereabouts currently unknown. The university community is in shock, praying for his safe return.

Enugu: Kidnappers Overrun LG, Abduct 4

In Adani, Uzo-Uwani LGA of Enugu State, a former councillor, Mr. Romanus Chikwelu, and three others, including the former transition committee vice-chairman, were abducted. The Nigerian Army engaged the kidnappers in a gun battle, resulting in casualties. A stray bullet injured a road user, adding to the tension. The suspects are demanding a ransom of N25 million for the captives.

The alarming escalation of insecurity raises concerns about the government's response and the safety of citizens across the nation. The lack of official comments from security agencies further intensifies the apprehension among the populace.
