Supreme Court Reserves Judgment in Nasarawa Governorship Election Appeal

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has reserved judgment in the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenging the appellate court's decision to reinstate Abdullahi Sule as the Governor of Nasarawa State. The five-member panel, presided over by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, adjourned the matter for judgment after hearing arguments from the counsel involved in the appeal.

Justice Kekere-Ekun stated that the parties involved would be notified when the judgment is ready. The case stems from the decision of the state election petition tribunal, which initially nullified the election results, declaring David Ombugadu of the PDP as the winner of the March 18, 2023 election. The tribunal alleged manipulation of the results in favor of Abdullahi Sule.

However, the appellate court overturned the tribunal's decision, reinstating Abdullahi Sule as the Governor. The appellate court argued that the tribunal erroneously relied on the evidence of eight PDP witnesses whose statements were not front-loaded alongside the petition.

David Ombugadu has now appealed the judgment at the Supreme Court, seeking a reversal of the decision. The apex court, having heard the arguments from both parties, has reserved its judgment, and parties involved will be informed of the decision in due course.
