Christian Leaders Commend the Emergence of Rev. COS Fawenu as Kwara PDP Treasurer
The emergence of Rev. Cornelius O.S. Fawenu as the State Treasurer of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has continued to attract commendations from Christian leaders and stakeholders across the state. Many have described it as a welcome development and a clear shift toward stronger Christian participation in the political affairs of Kwara State.
Rev. Fawenu, who previously served as the Scribe and Assistant Scribe of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Kwara State and the 19 Northern States respectively, is widely regarded as a principled leader with a long-standing record of service, advocacy, and moral integrity. His decision to take up an active role in party politics has been received with optimism and appreciation by both faith and civic communities.
Speaking at the recent Standing Committee Meeting of CAN held in Ilorin, the State Chairman, Rt. Rev. Sunday Timothy Adewole, expressed confidence in Rev. Fawenu’s capacity and credibility, noting that his antecedents have always reflected discipline, humility, and a deep commitment to the common good.
He clarified that while the Christian Association of Nigeria remains non-partisan, it encourages believers of proven character and competence to participate in governance, where their values can contribute to the emergence of a more just and accountable society.
Reactions from other Christian leaders echoed similar sentiments, describing Rev. Fawenu’s emergence as timely and deserving. They emphasized that his wealth of experience and credibility would be of immense benefit not only to the PDP but also to the broader political landscape in the state.
The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) leadership also hailed the move as a positive step, describing it as “an answered prayer for the church and the masses.” Many see it as a reflection of divine purpose and a bold statement that men and women of faith can serve effectively in governance without compromising their values.
Across social media platforms, several young people and civic-minded citizens reacted with enthusiasm, describing the development as refreshing and inspiring. Typical comments celebrated him as “a man of integrity bringing light into governance,” and “a leader whose example gives hope to the younger generation.”
The Emerging Leaders in Politics (ELIP) also welcomed the news, expressing optimism that Rev. Fawenu’s inclusion will inspire more Christians and value-driven individuals to get involved in shaping the future of governance in Nigeria. They noted that his presence represents the bridge between faith and public service that the younger generation has long desired.
As congratulations continue to pour in, many observers believe that Rev. Fawenu’s new role will further strengthen confidence in leadership driven by conscience, competence, and compassion.
