Japan Airlines Plane Catches Fire at Tokyo's Haneda Airport after Collision

In a harrowing incident at Tokyo's Haneda Airport, a Japan Airlines plane erupted in flames on the runway after an apparent collision with a coast guard aircraft. The Airbus aircraft, carrying 367 passengers, had just arrived from Sapporo airport on the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido.

Television reports and images from NHK, a Japanese broadcaster, showed the plane taxiing along the runway before an explosion of orange flames burst from beneath and behind it. Swift emergency response teams evacuated all passengers, ensuring their safety.

While the exact cause of the incident remains unclear, initial reports suggest a collision between the Airbus and a Coast Guard aircraft. A coast guard official at Haneda Airport mentioned, "It's not clear if there was a collision. But it is certain that our plane is involved," as authorities are actively investigating the details.

The alarming footage broadcasted on NHK displayed flames emerging from windows, with the nose of the plane on the ground. Rescue teams promptly engaged, spraying the aircraft with fire retardants. The runway also saw burning debris as more than 70 fire engines were deployed to contain the situation.

Japan, known for its stringent safety measures, has not experienced a serious commercial aviation accident in decades. The nation's worst aviation disaster occurred in 1985 when a Japan Airlines jumbo jet crashed in central Gunma region, resulting in 520 casualties. The current incident has raised concerns and prompted a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the plane fire at one of the world's busiest airports.
