Naira Slides to N1,295/$ in Parallel Market Amidst Forex Market Volatility


In a concerning development, the Naira experienced a decline to N1,295 per dollar in the parallel market on Tuesday, marking a drop from the N1,265 per dollar recorded the previous day. Simultaneously, in the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NAFEM), the Naira depreciated to N878.57 per dollar, showcasing a significant decline from N838.95 per dollar on Monday, indicating a N39.62 depreciation.

Data sourced from FMDQ revealed the indicative exchange rate shift in NAFEM, intensifying concerns over the currency's value. The contrasting rates in the official and parallel markets resulted in a narrowed gap of N416.43 per dollar on Tuesday, compared to N426.05 per dollar recorded on Monday.

The fluctuations in the Naira's value highlight the challenges faced by the currency in both official and informal trading spaces, warranting attention and monitoring from economic stakeholders.
