Tinubu Asserts: Buhari's Escape Route to Niger Closed Amid Border Shutdown

President Bola Tinubu declared that former President Muhammadu Buhari's post-presidential retreat to Niger is no longer an option due to the ongoing border closure. Tinubu made this statement during the unveiling of two books in Abuja, titled 'Working with Buhari (2015 – 2023)' and 'Muhammadu Buhari: The Nigerian Legacy—2015–2023 (Vols. 1–5)'.

Addressing the audience, Tinubu recalled Buhari's intention to retire to Daura or, if necessary, seek rest in the Republic of Niger. However, with the current border closure, Tinubu humorously remarked that Buhari can no longer make that escape.

Tinubu expressed gratitude to Femi Adesina, the author of the book and his former Special Adviser on Media & Publicity, for providing insights into the challenges faced during Buhari's administration. He pledged to continue and finish off some of the initiatives initiated by Buhari.

Touching on the state of the nation during Buhari's tenure, Tinubu acknowledged the difficult period marked by economic challenges and the Boko Haram insurgency. He highlighted the successful efforts to reclaim territories from the insurgents and reassured that his administration would build on Buhari's legacy.

Tinubu concluded with a commitment to address remaining challenges, emphasizing the government's determination to eradicate threats from groups like Boko Haram, Ansaru, and criminal gangs involved in banditry and kidnapping. He asserted, "We won't rest until every agent of darkness is completely rooted out."
